Chapter 19. Rituals

Litany of Departed in Holy Fifty Days

Original Arabic Text

The report by the Rituals Committee mentions the request of His Holiness Pope Shenouda III to remind the honourable members of the Holy Synod of a previous decision released regarding the Litany of the Departed in the Holy Fifty Days (in the meeting on 25/05/1991) that it is permitted to say the Litany of the Departed in the Holy Fifty Days if a body of a deceased [person] is present in the church during the time of prayer on it, and it is not prohibited to say with it [also] the Litany of the Sick as usual in the Holy Fifty Days. This does not mean it is permitted to say the Litany of the Departed in other days in normal circumstances, because in the Holy Fifty Days, we celebrate the Resurrection of the Lord Christ from the dead and the litanies always correspond to the rituals of the occasion.
