Requirements for preparing for marriages, assessment of widowers, medical examination, and advertisment of engagements
- His Holiness the Pope spoke about the importance of what ought to be included in the engagement report, and the prohibition on reserving the church for an Engagement or Marriage without a formal permit, that confirm it is free from encumbrances. We are not able to absolve a wrongful marriage, because this would be akin to formal adultery, absolved by the Church.
- In regard to widowers, it is necessary ascertain the status of any marriage following the death of his wife, and what the Church’s position is concerning this.
- A proposal to sign [consent to] a medical examination by those who have accepted marriage. It is required to study and present any experiences about it.
- His Holiness the Pope said that all engagements should be advertised on the noticeboards that are present in all churches for two weeks (which includes two Sundays) in the churches of both the betrothed. This is in order to avoid deception in marriages.
The Holy Synod passed these decisions in accordance with the instructions of His Holiness the Pope.
