Requirements of documentations and certificates for marriages

The Holy Synod decided as follows:

  1. Making a standardised certificate for the absence of marital encumbrances, bearing the signature of the Priest of the church, the seal of the church, and it is approved by the Patriarchate or Episcopate, and that a record be made in every diocese, with all the signatures of priests in this diocese, and a record exchange between all the dioceses with all seals of all Episcopates and the signature of the official who approves the certificates in the Diocese. Matters concerning each diocese are to be sent to the Secretariat of the Holy Synod, and the Secretariat will record them, and distribute copies in the diocese.
  2. Each priest who performs an Engagement or Crowning service other than within his Diocese, must carry a letter from the bishop, and obtain a permit to do so from the Diocese in which the Engagement or Crowning is performed.
  3. Attention to establishing new documentation departments, and the needs of the diocese in appointing new notaries.
