The Holy Synod was informed that the General Assembly of the Council of Middle Eastern Churches will meet in Cyprus this year between 2-5 December 2003, followed by a meeting of the Heads of the Middle Eastern Churches, who will also attend the General Assembly.

In the General Assembly, the Heads of the Council will be elected from the four families and members of the Executive Committee, as well as an election of a new Secretary-General of the Council and the family of our Eastern Orthodox churches in the Middle East will nominate a Secretary-General from its members for this position.

This is due to the expiry of the term of the work of Dr. Pastor Riad Gregor, the current Secretary-General of the Council, for two consecutive terms.

The Holy Synod supported the decisions of His Holiness Pope Shenouda III regarding the membership of the Coptic Orthodox Church in the Middle Eastern Council of Churches.
