Chapter 20. Faith, Education and Legislation

Warning against growing Protestant culture in the Church

Original Arabic Text
  1. The Holy Synod warned against the Protestant atmosphere crawling inside the church, through the teachings in theological colleges, preaching from the pulpits, and during secret gatherings.
  2. His Holiness the Pope expressed his desire to form a committee to examine choirs of spiritual songs because these entered in ways that we did not regulate ([singing] Protestant and folk songs).
  3. The Holy Synod agreed on the necessity of monitoring funeral halls and pavilions, tapes and lectures, and [the need to] send guaranteed persons, in order to prevent the infiltration of preachers of the sects.
  4. The Holy Synod emphasised the necessity of following up and monitoring the home meetings that some Pentecostal and Protestant servants host, or some of those who leave the church or those of other denominations.
  5. The Holy Synod decided that it is necessary to alert priests and servants not to respond to the invitations addressed to them to participate in conferences organised by the Evangelical community. It should be that such invitations are addressed to the Patriarchate, whereby the Patriarchate will be contacted by the inviting authorities.
