Chapter 14. Priests

Judgment of priests, rejecting revolving priests, and ordaining sufficient priests

Original Arabic Text

The Synod approved the requests and recommendations of the Diocesans Affairs Committee, as follows:

  1. The importance of adhering to the decision of the Holy Synod, issued on 21/06/1986, which states:
  2. a. The application of Church laws not to rule on a Priest, except by a Clerical Council, with the possibility of temporarily stopping his work pending the presentation of a Church trial without affecting his family financially. The Priest may submit a complaint or petition to the Diocesans Affairs Committee for review.

    b. If you take into consideration the problem of the Priest who is ordained in one of the dioceses, then his bishop gives him permission to come to Cairo, he would then become a burden on the diocese of His Holiness the Pope.

  3. Adherence also to the decision of the Holy Synod issued in 05/06/1993 about rejecting the idea of a "revolving priest", which is the idea that all priests pass through all churches in a city, periodically, free of specifying a church and a parish for each of them. This idea is harmful to the spirit of paternity, concentration of care, regularity of confessions, and raising of servants. Of course, this differs from the specialised priest of a group of villages, or for youth service, church education, etc."
  4. The importance of ordaining priests in sufficient numbers to cover the pastoral needs, so that there is no closed church, and Liturgies are prayed at least on Sunday or Friday, every week, and the mobile Altars that have another periodic system are excluded from this.
  5. The ordination of the priest should be with the satisfaction of the people, by giving them the opportunity to express their opinions frankly and without embarrassment by way of poll in writing, in a confidential manner, which will be followed by a collective signature on the recommendation.
