Disapproval of the exile of the Patriarch of Eritrea
The Committee on Church Relations stated that our Church does not approve of the delegate of the Government (Jephthah Demetrius) pressuring the Holy Synod of the Eritrean Orthodox Church to exile His Holiness the legitimate Patriarch Father Antonios I.
At the Synod meeting, His Holiness the Pope said: We currently have no relationship with the Eritrean Church because the Patriarch is exiled and there is no contact with him and we still support Father Antonios because the methods that were used with him are not sound and we mention him in our liturgies and if they appoint a new Patriarch we will have no connection with him.
