The use of oils

The Holy Synod has agreed to the following recommendations and alterations [cont.]:

Third: In the Unction of the Sick and in the Crowning [Services]

  1. It is necessary for Priests to adhere to minimising the use of the oil for the Unction of the Sick to anoint the sick, the anointment of which is done by the hand of the priest, without adding to it any other oils, perfumes or ointments, because this is exclusive to the preparation of the Chrism oil.
  2. As for the oil that is used in the Crowning [Services], this is regular olive oil dedicated to this [Crowning Services] or the oil of Apocalypse [Service].
