Papal deputy appointed for the Diocese of Gerga
His Grace Metropolitan Mina, Metropolitan of Gerga, sent a letter written and signed for His Holiness the Pope, requesting the appointment of a Papal Deputy for the Diocese of Gerga due to his health conditions from which he suffers, and due to his age and elderliness, and the increasing requirements of the service and its serious responsibilities.
Based on the recommendations of the Diocesans Affairs Committee, the Holy Synod delegated His Holiness Pope Shenouda III to appoint a Papal Deputy for the Diocese of Gerga to be responsible for pastoral services in the Diocese, in all spiritual, managerial and financial aspects, and all that is needed in the service, under the supervision of His Holiness the Pope.
In relation to His Grace Metropolitan Mina’s request to reside in the monastery of the Angel, East Gerga (which would be after the release of his private servant Wahba Gerges Megalaa and his clearance from the Episcopate), His Grace will be responsible for the monastery, but may not conduct any new ordinations for the Diocese or the monastery.
